3L V6 Starter Solenoid Repair
Thank you Yotatech posters for all the tips and trouble shooting posts on the starter solenoid contact repair and replacement. I was having some issues back in the winter and found that my issues were pretty normal and required a simple fix.
4Crawler and 4x4Wire technical write ups are very valuable for resolving issues that one may encounter.
The only tips I can offer other posters that need to remove their starter on the 3L V6 are:
1 - find a wobble end extension for reaching the positive battery stud and the starter mounting bolts. Most of us use a universal joint to work at angles or around an offset. However, I found that a wobble end extension provided just the right amount of angle for the socket to fit onto the stud nut or the mount bolts and maintain control. Sometimes a universal joint is too flexible and takes an extra effort to keep it from flopping around when trying to reach into a hard to see part.
2 - for reaching the postive battery cable stud on the starter it is best to go up from the bottom with a series of long extenstions. I started off with trying to use a ratchet slipped over the frame and wiggled. However, the wobble end extenstion from the bottom allowed for a really easy reach to the stud nut.
It was my first Yota starter removal, repair, and replacement and only took 1.5 hours, which included a few neighbors coming over to ask me what was up. Actual time was much less than 1.5 hours. If I would have cut off the shock stud the starter would have slipped in and out like butter.
So, again, thanks Yotatech....you're awesome.
