37 inch tires 2 much for a 22re with 5.29's
im trying to figure out what size tire to run....my 35's are a little small for a 5 inch suspension and a 3 inch body, but can my 22-re handle the larger tires. o yeah i also have 5.29 gears. i want to maintain highway speed

i ran 37" mt/r's on 4.88s and could ride at 70-75....except for uphills. If i had downshifted (5spd) to 4th maybe, but it was borderline. I'd expect with 5.29s you'd be fine. hope you like riding at 3000+ rpms though, I expect you'll find yourself in that range a lot.
Maybe someone who has 5.29s and not 4.88s will post up with a better answer.

mine cruizes at 3100 rpm at around 70-75 with 35's and 5.29s. with the extra weight of the 37s i would imagine it would slow the motor down a little bit, but then you might also loose a little speed.

I'm running 5.29 and 36's and my truck has plenty of pep. You'll be fine with a 1" bigger tire. Weight won't be an issue at all either. I bet the 37" tire only weighs a pound or so more than a 36" does...

OP was talking about going from a 35" to 37" tire and the tire weight increases by a lot more than a pound per tire. From National Tire and wheel a Toyo open country MT 35x13.50x15 is 84 lbs, a 37x13.5x17 (less rubber from bigger rim) comes in at 93 lbs....9 lbs per tire increased weight
I was comparing how my truck accelerates and handles with a 36" tire and 5.29's to what I would guess it would accelerate and handle like with a 37" tire and 5.29's. The ultimate goal of the OP is to find out how his truck will feel with 37's, and I was trying to help him understand that...
And btw, the 37" Irok radial weighs in at 4 pounds less than the 36" does. part of this is because it's narrower than the 36, but the proof is in the pudding. I can only speak for what I have personal experience with.
I guess that from now on, before you correct someone you should at least bother to find out what they're comparing. Especially if they too lazy to post links like I was in my original post...

Ummm - or you could take some lift out.
IMHO, you need 5.71 for 37's. Your RPM's are going to drop by ~200 or so - if that takes you below 3000 RPM, you just turned your 5 speed into a 4speed.

x2...
I'm running 36 TSLs with 3" Trail Gear srpings and a Marlin Crawler drop spring hanger & shackles. That's about 4.5" lift max. No body lift, and I could easily fit 37" or 38" tires.
I'm running 5.29 gears with a worn 22RE (190,000+ miles). Fourth gear on hills, 5th the rest of the time.

If he runs off-road at all and puts strain on his drivetrain 5.71's are a big no-no. Even 5.29's are weak. Run your 5.29's they are stronger than 5.71's, no need to re-gear, and they will drive just fine.

If you're concerned about gear-breakage get them cryo-treated.
For what its worth I cruise 75mph 3400 rpm 4th gear w/ stock 4.10's on 31x10.5'.
I never use 5th gear as it's worthless. (infact toyota called it a 4spd with overdrive!) With these motors they do far better mpg wise if you run them in the power band with as little pedal input as you can achieve. For MY rig thats 75mph and 4th gear. For example, an hour half road trip one way i used 5th gear and tried to maintain 80mph on fairly flat-level freeway. Used nearly half a tank. On the return trip mainted 70 in 4th and barely touched a qtr tank of used fuel. Wind wasnt a factor.
RPM's arent direct comparison to fuel economy. Just remember that next time you're cruising 5th at 2500rpm with the pedal mashed.
This is just food for thought.

That's BS too. I'm a metallurgist. AT BEST, cryo treating will make up for a bad heat treatment. Realistically, it does little but add cost.
In my experience, you need to keep these motors (both the 22RE and 3VZE) over 3000 to be in the powerband and have a chance of holding the gear into the wind or up any kind of rise.

Its been proven time and time again that 5.71's are no weaker than 5.29's.
That is an internet myth.
Many people running 5.71's and 40" tires with crawlers. They do just fine.
