302 swap what is a prefered trans?

i'm gonna be doin a 302 swap into my 93 p/u and was wondering if i could get some good opinions on which trans i should run? i know theres quite a few different options, so some input from some people who have done these swaps or have much info on them would be greatly appreciated and i have also searched, but i'm just gathering info before i tear into it.
thanks.

The v6 5sp can handle the power that the 302 will put out.
Question is, do you want a 5sp or an auto?

is this going to be a stock 302? if you want a toyota tranny go with a r151. auto trans i would go with a built AOD with a toy 23 spline t-case if there was one. other manuals to look at are nv4500, ZF, t-18, np435..

You tell me where I can still get an adapter. I have been looking but not luck. I got a 302, AOD and even a turbo case but no adapter. I do not feel like paying alot for it or even getting one from Australia. Let me know if you find one!

The cost of a machine shop doing that wouldn't be worth it and it would be easier just to get a NP205 case but I like the way Toyota cases work. Besides I do not want to have one end flange and the other open on my driveshafts. I'am still thinking of putting the Ford in. My 3.0 V6 is an absolute turd. I want to yank it out when I do the SAS but I have no adapters. NWOR makes a R series bellhousing to bolt up to a SBF but that is $850 PLUS shipping!! I do not want to put a chevy motor in it since I like Ford blocks because they are smaller and the distributor is in the front.

So I have an AOD, T5, 302 out of my 90 Mustang and a 347 rotating kit sitting in the box but no adapters and no American cases. So any suggestions?

James

Which 5 speed trans? R or W? If it is a W then no. I have no personal experience but from reading on the net the W series cannot hold a V8.

If you decide not to keep the toy tranny, look for a mid to late 90's ZF1 5speed from a 3/4 ton. I swapped one into a '72 Bronco I used to have. Bolts right up the 302, uses a hydro clutch, has a granny low and a great overdrive, nicely syncro'd too...

well i picked up my transmission fri i got a rebuiltC4 out of a 70 something mustang. the guy said it was out of one of his sons buddys cars and needed it out. he says it only has 5k miles on the rebuild, and ran fine when it was pulled. but he didnt know why it was pulled? i'm not real concerned i'm gonna have my girlfriends dad go through it put the shift kit in it and put the adapter on. i havent decided which adapter kit to go with yet advanced has one and northwest offroad has one for about 50 bucks cheaper. Oh yeah the best part is i only paid 80 bucks for the tranny and the guy met me at my job and dropped it off. it came with a torque converter so hopefully i'll be able to get the stall bumped up on it as well. i got my truck all torn apart its comin along nice. the motor, t-case and trans are all out of it. Ive been lookin and i think it will be really easy to belly tuck it while i'm doin this so i'm gonna make a crossmember for it and try to hopefully get the bottom of the t-case about flush with the frame rails or maybe an inch below and i got some i think 1/2 x 4 bar stock steel for free so i'm gonna try to use it for the crossmember. i had planned on puttin a bunch of pics up but my camera is dead. so i'll prolly get them up sometime this week. I also ordered my 4.7 gear reduction kit and some 1.5 inch wheel spacers. they were trying to convince me to go ahead and order the IFS eliminator kit to from trail-gear but thats a little on down the road, but it will be soon after the motor swaps done. well anybody know anything on either of the adapter kits let me know i havent decided on either one yet. except ones cheaper.
