3.0l V6 help

I am looking into buying a 88 4runner v6 at 4x4. Only problem is the engine's bottom end is shot. It looks like it will need either a rebuild or a whole new engine. the car has 107k miles on it. I can pick it up for $600. Anyone have any advice on this? How much work will this 3.0l be and how much do you think it will cost? Any help is appreciated, i don't know much about these 3.0's.

If you think the 3.0L is toast, you may want to consider dropping in a 3.4L.

If you decide to buy an engine and have someone install it the engine will go for anywhere from about $2500 to $5000 depending on what you want. "Book value" for the r&r is about $1500. I settled on an engine that's about $3500.

It's suprising that it's an '88 with only 107k and also has a bad bottom end with so few miles. Hmmm . . .
