3.0 VZE Cam Timing advance
How much advance should one run at the cam ?? Its a long long story of why I'm ripping off the timing belt after just doing it lats thursday but we wont go there right now...
Anyways, back to the question.. I failed to look at where it was set when i ripped off the timing belt, i dialed everything into the ZERO marks, and it was a DOG, should i be advancing the driver side cam 1 tooth on the belt?? Im freakin lost with this motor... Im a suspension guy..

If you short the pins in the diagnostic port, you should probably start with the factory recommendation of 10* advance. I've heard of guys running 12 to 14 advance, but everyone seems to start out at 10 initially. Once you get the 10 dialed in, check it without the jumper and make sure it sits at the 8 mark. Did you replace the cam pulleys when you did the belt? If so check and make sure that one of them is flipped...I believe it's the driver's side that goes flange out...anyone care to correct me on this, I don't have my FSM handy.

Make sure you put the crank on 0 and not the first line that says 5. They go 5,0,5,10. I had to redo a friends belt a few weeks ago since he did that. The crank is on 0 and the cam pulleys should have the line in the gear staight up on both. The gears are the same so it doesnt matter which one goes where as long as the drivers cam has the flange towards the outside and the pass to the inside. Dont run anymore than 12 deg from the dist. 10-12 degrees is good
