hey there i was wondering if there is a site that has all the info on how to do a headgasket job for a 3 slow. i have checked all over and got no luck. any help will be greatly appreciated.

Let me know if you need any tips or come across any snags. I just finished putting brand new heads on my 95. Started it up this morning and drove it around the block. Great feeling!

Make sure you measure your valve clearances and adjust if necessary!

thanks for the help. i bought this truck for close to nothing with a blown head gasket. the truck is in excellent condition otherwise. just looking at the engine freaked me out. i have changed a head gasket on a dodge ram with a 5.9 before but that was pretty easy because there were only a few things to take off. ive heard that it takes 12 hours to change the headgaskets on these trucks because u have to take off so many things.

I did the same thing. I was lucky enough to be able to drive it home.

It didn't take that long to pull everything off. There are definitely some short cuts such as leaving all of the left side vac lines attached to the intake manifold and propping the manifold vertically. (Pulling it towards the passenger side of the car and holding it up with a strap/rope)

Unbolt the downpipe, and disconnect the driver side exhaust manifold from the crossover pipe. You can do this from the driver wheel well and a 14mm wrench.

You can pull the driver side head off with the exhaust manifold still attached. Once that is off you can pull the passenger head off with the whole crossover still attached.

At least its not an AJ12 V12 Jaguar engine. My friend told me the books says it takes twenty four hours to get to the head gaskets, then about the same to replace it all.

ALLDATA says 12 hours to do the Head Gaskets on the 3.0. If it is your first time tearing apart a 3.0 it will probably take a little longer. Good luck, it is an involved job, but take your time and label everything and you will be ok. Take lots of digital pictures, especially of all the vacuum connections on the pass side of the upper intake plenum.

This is what I was referring to earlier. You don't have to remove any of these. Just unbolt the plenum and stand is on its side with the throttle body straight up.

i have decided not to take on this job by myself. my friend knows a apprentice mechanic that works at the toyota dealership in my town and he is going to do the job. im hoping that the head ans block is still in usuable condition
