I am a new owner of a 1990 4runner SR5 V6 3.0 and I would like to get a little bit more power out of it. What are some engine mods that I could do to just give me a some much needed power? I am not looking for a significant increase in hp just enough to see a difference. Thanks!

Make sure your maintenance is up to date. I just bought a 95 with the 3vze and changing out the plugs gave me a noticeable difference.

Headers are the only thing worth doing to the 3.0. Mods for this motor are very expensive with little gain. Best thing you do for it is keep up with the maintenance and shell last for ever.

Might want to into gearing for more seat of the pants power.

egr delete, isr mod, 7mge afm, headers/crossover elimination mod. set timing to 15* degrees. much more hp in my truck now then stock. im very happy with it and getting 18+ mpg if i can keep my foot out of it. first step is proper tune up and oil changes. 3vze is a good motor just bad reputation. read read and read some more about the mods. type 3vze mods into the search and read for days and understand everything before you start to mess with it. on another thought change one thing at a time and get it working properly before you move on to the next thing to change. if you change 3 things at once you will have 15 possible problems to try and figure out.. not much fun.. search read up and get to wrenching!!!

hey guys i am new to this and i was wondering how hard is to take a motor out of a 1991 4runner with a 3liter and put another back in and how hard is it to do a headgasket ?? more labor then how hard it is?? or it my dd and also my offroad rig too

One mans easy is another mans impossible.

Probably easier to swap engines than to replace the headgaskets successfully with the block remaining in the truck. Many picky details involved in a headgasket job that might be expected to last, but surely it can be done.

The Factory service manual tells all.

What is your timeframe? shop space?? Skill level?? Experienced friends???

Either job can be done by just about anyone with patience, time and tools.

Hey all I finnaly got the 94 4runner running she's a 3.0 SR5 I'm posting this in this thread more as a upgrade but I've heard that doing a manual transmission swap on these 3.0 make a night and day difference. And have any if you done this before?
