looks like thats what im gonna do, gonna try and get an oil pressure gauge on it tommorow that way after i do it i can see if i made a difference there, and hopefully get the knock out, just looking to get out as cheap as possible

I pulled my engine and flipped it over to do this... jus a lil easier only took me about a week but i did have to wait on my fly wheel as i did a clutch at the same time i also got distracted here and there resealing my rear end brakes ect. not a terribly hard job if you have some idea of what your doin. good luck to ya

I did mine but i also had to drop my diff, just couldnt get around that, also i unbolted the idler arm to drop the steering centerlink....unfortunately the rod journal was too far gone. put it all baack together and it knocked very very slight but i wasnt satisfied so i yanked the motor and rebuilt it.

I would personally be more concerned at to what exactly is knocking... If it's a wristpin then you're pretty much fizzucked as far as doing anything in the truck. If it's bearings, then so long as nothing needs to be machined/aligned then you could probably do it. Be a lot easier with the engine out, but doable. If it's out of alignment that caused the bearing to smoke, then it's just going to do it again shortly after its replaced.
