3.0 rear main seal housing

While doing my clutch on my 95 pickup with the 3.0, I decided to change the rear main seal. I took the housing off witg the seal still in it, put the new seal in the housing, cleaned everything up, rtv'd the housing and put the gasket that came with my kit over that then bolted it back to the motor.

After reading some stuff, apparently you have to pull the oil pan if you remove this plate due to the rtv on the bottom for the oil pan. I put rtv back there as well. I haven't put anything back over the seal yet.

Has anyone else done this exact thing without removing the oil pan? Because now I'm worried ut will leak from the oil pan side. I would much rather buy another seal and gasket set and redo now than after the transmission is back in!

If you did everything "right" it should be fine. By that I mean applying/installing the RTV to clean surfaces.
