Dropping a new used engine in my 4runner. The factory exhaust manifold and crossover pipe thing is atrociously designed IMO (especially for passengers side exhaust flow) and I want to do away with that crossover pipe behind the engine. I was wondering if aftermarket headers would help me accomplish this. Posted a pic to show what I want to get rid of..

Aftermarket headers won't totally solve the problem, but they would definitely help. It just depends on how much you want to spend. There are really only two companies that make them anymore, NWOR and Doug Thorley. Due to the lack of competition and low demand, the prices for them are ridiculous. I think Thorley sells them for $600-$800 IIRC. I'm not too sure about NWOR because they don't have prices for anything on their site, which is stupid.

Are they worth the money? Not really. Use the search bar on here to look up the "crossover elimination mod". That'll be more worth the time and money.

If you have welding equipment you can eliminate the crossover by running the passenger side header down and cross over underneath the transmission oil pan and merge with the driver side. I was fed up with two leaking oem crossover pipes and did this mod. My welds look like crap, but has held up so far for me. I will be re-doing the setup all the back to the tail pipe this summer.

I have a buddy or 2 that can weld decent. Ive been thinking about going that way or just redoing the crossover pipe with a larger diameter and have it connect at a Y down by the trans, kind of like the ORS 3.4 xover pipe. I read you can also cut the xover pipe after it curves on passenger side, rotate 90* and the curve will point down but I dont like how small the opening is on those flanges. Seems tiny to me. I've also been thinking about just getting some headers but they are retarded expensive and there are like, 2 choices for the 3.0, LCE and DT.
