3.0 5spd owners

If possible can someone go out and throw their truck in 1st and barely let the clutch out and then put it in reverse and barely let the clutch out and let me know if they hear any noise?

I have a lot of experience with 22re 5spd with the gear driven tcase, but i need some help with a 93 3.0 5spd toy xcab I picked up.

I need some help from other 3.0 5spd owners. I have a strange "ting" sound when letting the clutch out in 1st or reverse. Sounds like a bad ujoint but all new toyota(no cheapies) u-joints with no change. both tcase nut and pinion nut is tight. no vibes at speed. Swapped tcases with no change.

the only thing i havent changed is the center support bearing, but it seems fine with no vibes.

This is my first chain tcase so maybe this is the normal sound of the chain taking up the slack when changing direction? Ive put about 5k miles on it and the sound hasnt changed.

"ting" sounds very driveshaftish to me.

Could it be from the leaf springs wrapping-unwrapping

Mine made that noise for a few years and I never really found what it was until I pulled the engine to swap in a 3.4. Turns out that one of the bolts that holds the heat shield to the exhaust manifold had rusted through and the shield was vibrating on the manifold. Sounded like an old rotary phone ringing when you let the clutch out with little or no throttle, ding ding ding.

not sure about the 3.0 but on the 22re theres a bolt that bolts the exhaust to the block/trany and mine was out and it rattled when i let it out just a little bit too so i took a big pry bar to it and made a the cap just a little bigger no problems now!

It sounds like one of the exhaust heat shields is loose. I had a ting-y sound like that now and then and it was a heat shield that had rusted off its mounting bolts.

excellent ideas and thanks for checking your rigs for me. i would not have thought to check the heat shields. But it makes perfect sense since the motor will rock on the mounts. Here in CA we dont have to deal with rust, so our exhaust systems usually last a long time. But I will check for loose or broken bolts this weekend.

It is possible that a ujoint was bad from the factory so I will go back through them and make sure they are all tight to be sure. At least now I know it is not a normal 3.0 tcase noise i am chasing.
