yep, i had that exact problem.. after a compression test i showed number 4 low compression (40 lbs).. then a cylinder leak down which showed toasted valve seals.. It was weird cause off idle it ran fantastic... First check your EGR by pulling vaccum on it, hopefully its just stuck open and thats your problem, if this is the case just block off the EGR (do a search) if your EGR is good id say you have more serious issues to address.. Next id check all your injectors and make sure theyre all firing and not leaking (you have strong gas smell in cab??) if its none of those then move to the comp test and leak down.. I did them in this order hoping to not find a bad head....

Also this is ghetto but you can unplug the front vacuum line off your EGR and plug the line with a screw, it will smooth out the idle until you can fix it correctly.. this is what i did before i tore down the motor.. HTH

Also make sure you have the wires in the correct spot.. I know its retarded but i have to say it.....

First off make sure your EGR is not stuck open.. you can either just go ahead and block off the EGR or if you have a hand pump vacuum gauge just connect it to your EGR and see if it hold vacuum. If it holds vacuum your EGR is good (or if when you block off the EGR it smooths out that was you problem) if it leaks down or doesnt hold a vacuum then you egr is stuck open.. Assuming you dont have a vacuum gauge just pull it off and block it with a piece of aluminum from a pop can (or buy a new one and replace it) like i said do a search... If the EGR is good pull the front vacuum line off of the EGR and plug the line with a screw, this will smooth it out but it isnt the "right"way to do it.. from there start with the other tests I noted above.. If you dont have a gas smell its most likely not a leaky injector... Im trying to help you the best i can from my own personal experiances with this motor.. These steps are what worked best for me...

You can also bump your idle up a tish (make sure your truck is nice and warm) but then your IAC will try to compensate for it every-once in a while by trying to bump the idle down.. its only a TEMP fix and you shouldnt rely on this for a permanent fix... If all else fails choke and take it to a shop.. they're going to do exactly what i told you do in the first post initially so do the best you can to perform these tests...

Yes, its is on the passenger side of your rig with a pipe from the exh mani to the intake mani.... block it off at the head with a piece of aluminum cut to fit from a pop can...
