3.0 to 22re 2nd Gen 4runner
Before ya'll start yelling at me hear me out.
I have a 93 T4R with a good running 22re 5speed, problem is the body is shot. I have a opportunity to but a very clean 92 T4R with a blown 3.0. I have been searching through several forums with no luck on how hard would it be to swap the 22re for the 3.0? I know the drivetran and motor mounts, but how does the wiring go?
Before you start telling me to swap a 2/3rz or a 5vz its not in the budget. help would be very appreciated.

personally i cannot warrant sticking a less powerful engine in my rig. if I'm spending my energy, time and money on something it's going to be an upgrade not a downgrade.
in regards to your build - definitely have the wiring diagrams for both rigs. I would also suggest you start reading up in build threads where the person swapped out their 22re for something else, like a 5vze. Since it's the opposite of what you're doing, it may clear up a lot of questions about what you need to focus on.

Thanks for the responses I will look into finding the appropriate wiring diagrams.
Dont get me wrong I would love to swap a 2/3rz 5vz or even a TDI diesel but living in ak all of them are few and far between when they do pop up on CL everyone wants a pretty penny for something with 300k miles on it. The last 2rz I saw had 275k and the guy wanted 2k for just the engine with no wiring harness.

I have swapped wiring harnesses on the previous generation of trucks. If I had both of those runners and was determined to do the 3.0-22re, I would not hesitate. You already mentioned the motor mounts, I am not sure of the radiator, cross member and drive shafts.
From my experience you will need to swap all the harnesses from bumper to bumper. Even the gas tank/tail light harness. I would bet Toyota has even changed them. You will need to remove the dash, rear panels, and inner fenders, basically you will strip it down to a shell.
Toyota is notorious on changing something on everything. I have even had to swap out wiper motors. Dont try to piece it together from a different year truck. Get all the parts off of the same donor truck which you already have access to.
Time wise
40 hours just to pull both harnesses out of the trucks and install it in one truck.
10 hours to swap transmissions.
8 hours to swap motors.
To remove the dash on a 89-95 truck start on the passenger side and work your way to the drivers side. This thread https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f116...4-88-a-278925/ will have a lot of similarities to what you are going to be doing and give you and idea of what you are going to run into.
Depending on how well you know your generation of truck and other issues that are going to come up, I would expect more time then what I listed above.

Well yes one can swap out all the harnesses on the entire vehicle.
Being the OP is up North it may take months to find the complete harness.
Myself I am Lazy I will take the repinnig of a few wires over swapping the complete vehicle harness.
After all the person doing it is doing the work.

I went and looked at the 4runner and it ended up having more cancer than the one I have now. But on the bright side the guy had a rolled 2nd gen with only 50k on the clock. I struck up a deal with him im getting both rear quarters and a 85 solid axle for only a generator. summers coming fast so i probably wont tackle sheet metal until next winter. But I do want to do a low slung SAS before summer. Be on the watch for a build thread. Thanks again for the tech info!
