2wd vs 4x4 bumpers, difference?
Looking to order a new bumper and valance, i cannot find a black bumper that says 4x4 in the title.
To my knowledge there is no difference, i thought they were all they same.
I have a 1990 Toy P/U 22re 4x4 Auto Ext. Cab.
I want an all black bumper like this...
http://www.ebay.com/itm/89-91-90-TOY...e7aa93&vxp=mtr
but it says 2wd. is there any difference i should know of?
This is the one that my truck calls for...
http://www.ebay.com/itm/89-91-TOYOTA...006be6&vxp=mtr
Only difference i see is the bumper ends bolt on rather than one piece. and the valence is a little different.
If i order the chrome i have to find a way to paint over the chrome to get to black

If I'm not mistaken the 2wd one just has a shorter valance... As for the reason you can't find the 4WD bumper in black, I'm pretty sure it's just because the 4WD pickups all had chrome bumpers? I could be wrong though...

Honestly, if you take your time a rattlecan would be just fine! Rustoleum makes good stuff and I've pained many things with diff finishes of their product (my top, skid plate, bumper trim, etc...) and they all turned out great!

For painting the chrome just make sure you take some pretty fine sandpaper and scuff it up really well to give the paint something to grab onto on that smooth surface. It's just like painting up any piece of steel, as long as the paint has something to grip onto it should be fine.

Not meaning to thread jack....but are the rear bumpers on the pickups and 4runners interchangable? I need a rear bumper but if possible id rather get a pickup bumper with the ball mount. they dont hang as low as a hitch would.
As for painting the chrome, I used rustoleum satin black on my chrome front bumper a few months ago without sanding and its holding fine....bugs and rocks have all hit it ad theres still no chips. If i had it to do again id sand it for even better adhesion though.

If I'm not mistaken the mounts are different because of the 4Runner's rear body mounts? It might be that the 4Runner's bumper mounts inside the frame rails while the pickup is on the outside? Eh, I could be WAYY off, but I thought I had read that somewhere. Not 100% sure, but I'm gonna lean towards it's not gonna work without fab work.
