1991 STD 1/2 Ton 2WD 22RE 5spd W-Transmission


Stupid question I know...
I'm pretty sure I need to replace my U-Joints and I'd like to replace them with Toyota parts. It's a very standard driveline with one U-Joint in front and one in back. Are they both the same size? (As opposed to the driveline with one U-Joint and that round thing at the other end)

That's how it would normally be, just want to make sure Toyota didn't pull any funny business before I order the parts.

Is there anything I need to look out for when doing this replacement?

says that both the front and rear Spider Kits are 04371-35031

But that site also says that part is no longer available.

So that's why you want to make friends with the counterman where you're getting your genuine Toyota parts. He knows what he's doing; he does it for a living. Just be sure to write your VIN on a piece of paper and hand it to him. Makes his job much easier.

Thanks man. I did look on that site but couldn't find anything.
I didn't realize it was mixed in with Propeller Shaft & Universal Joint. My eyes just couldn't get further than Propeller.. nope, that's not it..
Guess I should have done a page search.

I don`t care what anyone says these Toyota Ujoints are a pain to change.

Because the way they sit in the flange You can`t press them out straight since I change them very seldom I keep wanting to make a fixture but forget till I need to change some again.

I have a local driveline shop that changes them quite reasonable.

I know your budget is limited but this might be an option.

Then being in the great Brine belt just makes it worse .

Using a vice and sockets to press them in and out one needs at least 3 hands Which is a pain by yourself trying to line things up hold the whole driveshaft and turn the vice

I am sure the U-Joints are the same. I can change my U-Joints but Toyotas can be a pain. I too take the whole shaft to a shop and have them to change them. Shop charges me $10 and well worth it.

I haven't done mine in a decade, but I think I recall them being sealed and I switched to greaseable Spicer joints instead so I can put fresh grease in after 4xing like driving the coal beds on minus tides or going through rivers and such. sealed units are okay for a while, but greaseable joints can last far longer if you are willing to grwse them once in a while
