Unhappy 2nd test drive and runs high

Well this is the 2nd test run I've done after putting a different motor in and I need some help figuring this out. I got the motor timed where it should be and it idles just fine. I took it around the neighborhood and while driving I am in 4th gear. In 3rd at 20 mph it sounds alot higher than it should. I don't have a tach at all so I don't know what my rpms are. Driving in 4th at 20-25 the truck sounds normal. What should I start looking for or (this is my first Yota) what's the normal speed ranges for the gears? It's an 86 5 speed, 4x4 with a motor from an 83, so my timing is set at 0.

my first gear runs to about 15-20mph
my second gear runs to about 30-35mph
my third gear runs up to 45-50mph
my fourth gear runs up to about 65-70mph
and my 5th runs about from 65mph up to about 105mph....and anything about 75mph is achieved going downhill with a strong tailwind lmao

If I slow down to 20 then it does start to lug a bit in 4th but when I get back on the gas it does fine. I thought I might have to do some adjustment on the carb but I'm not exactly sure what I need to adjust. Or if there's something different I need to do.

You might want to try advancing the timing to about 12 degrees and see how it runs. Running the engine at 0 degrees is bound to cause issues.

Problem solved. I get a dumbass award today. Sitting here all pissed off then looked at my 4 wheel drive shifter. It was in neutral. Moved it over to 2hi and guess what? Drove 15-20 in 1st, then 25 in 2nd. Just like what you listed there Camo31. I feel sheepish.

Your skilled on getting the truck to move with the t case in N. I used to put mine in 3rd and N to warm the tranny up in the winter and my truck wouldn't move.
