22rec timing question
my question is i checked my timing on my truck while it was running fine and it was running way before 5 tdc as soon as i advanced it to 5 tdc it died. it wasnt even anywhere close to the marks any of them. my truck is running real bad i mean like to even keep it running you have to keep the acc all the way down and it just barely runs as soon as let off it will idle good at a certain point and then back to crap at idle. i took the throttle body off to change the tps and inside is really oily air side not back side of tb. will the tps affect timing. i mean this thing was firing about 30 btdc maybe 40. i made sure it was timed set to 5btdc and checked the piston made sure everything was set right and still ran like crap when you could get it to crank. this is driving me fn nuts.

Did you connect a jumper between terminals TE1 and E1 of the DLC when you timed it?

yes done the jumper when i checked the timing it was running smooth and idling at 900 rpms so smooth and as soon as i turned the distributor towards 5 btdc it got worse almost like it was being smothered out.

i pulled the valve cover and checked to make sure it was not off a tooth on cam and its not but i noticed when i put it at tdc there was about an 1/8th inch play either way when i turn the crank i can hear the oil pump but thats before the chain ever moves either way. should there be that much play in timing chain from crank to cam?
