First post on the forum, folks.

I've owned my 92 4WD pickup since day one; already gone through one 22RE power plant and the exchange was DIY, so I've been through about everything with it, however, while replacing the radiator and chasing down an overheating issue, I spied the real problem.

There is a metal coolant pipe, about 1/4", that is pressed into the rear portion of the block that the water pump is bolted onto. It T's off into heater hoses, but the T has rusted and/or vibrated clean in two.

This looks like a partial teardown just to get to where I can address the situation. I'm sure that someone else has already been down this path. Does anyone have any advice or tips on the fix before I dig in?

Is this the pipe that bolts onto the back of the timing cover? I don't have a great mental picture of it, but I don't think there's anything truly pressed in the block... could be wrong.

Darn, dude. I think that perhaps you may be thinking of the same pipe. The timing cover? It's been some time since I was last this deep into it, and I have short term memory loss due to age and certain substances that I used to ingest.

Whatever the case, I was thinking that it looked pressed in from my vantage point, and without the benefit of a mirror, a flashlight, or being able to become real little. Let's hope that isn't the case however, because it would be extremely illogical to have to buy the timing cover to replace the pipe!

Well, it appears to be bolted on from the front, then. This makes things much easier. There was too much dust and too little light this morning to make the distinction.
