22re runs 30 seconds, then dies

Hey all, I've got an 88 4runner with 22re, manual tranny. I've searched and searched and not found anybody with my particular issue.

I removed the p/s pump yesterday and after re-installing the intake tube, the truck starts up fine, idles great until about 30 seconds then it starts missing and progressively gets worse until it finally dies. I have checked all the vacuum lines, pulled the plugs, checked the wires, checked the grounds. I had a fairly significant hole in the elbow of the intake tube right before the TPS but I patched it up today, albeit just with duct tape. I only removed the parts included in the p/s system and I just don't understand why the engine is behaving differently.

There is a ground that is on a lot of 22Rs positioned on one of the power steering vane pump bracket mounting bolts. Verify this ground is good and attached to the engine block.

I'm assuming the trucka engine ran fine prior to tamping with the power steering system..?

I looked around that area for the ground, but didn't find any loose wires hanging. Everything seems to be connected. And yeah, the engine ran perfectly before this. I started it up this morning and she ran perfect for a few minutes then as she started warming up it sputtered and died.
