22re rebuild. exhaust suggestions??

hello im new to the tread. i own a 1992 toyota pickup 4x4 with a 22re. i blow my engine and i am now rebuilding one. it is bored 20 over and all new piston and machine work, i have a rebuilt head (port and polished) adn the engnbldr 268 cam . its got cold air intake with a AFM tweek. i was wondering what a good exhaust set up would be with a stock manifold (which is great) and no cat. pipe size and muffler suggestions.... cheaper but not to cheap... cant be to expensive i am in school adn have very little income.. a

Also any other mods you would suggest for me to do for a little gain in power for highway crusing and off roading.

Thanks

I dont know about a built motor but 2 1/4". Seems to be one of the more popular exhaust diameter. Propper back pressure seems to be very important. I run a magnaflow muffler and like the way it sounds. But I also have a cat on mine. I still want to get my headder put on.
I am interested to see all the suggestions

I run 2 1/4 magnaflow 40 on my 22re with the L.C.E. pro street head and 261 cam from enginbldr seems to be a very nice match and has a nice sound at idle almost sounds like a v8

You're gonna want to have your pipe bigger, because with more air and fuel coming into the engine, you're gonna need to get the exhaust out faster. 2 1/4 or 2 1/2 should do the trick without getting in the way. cherry bomb turbo and vortex sound sick too. my yota was straight piped with a boom tube on the back, it sounded great, and attracted some -wanted- attention. hehehe

Exhaust exit bedside or near the door is annoying. Run it out the rear.
With stock manifold 2.25" tubing and cheap cat and muffler.

Pro-Trux did some testing with the muffler shop I had some work done...

He said for a stock to mild motor best set up was 2.5 then a 2 1/4 at the tip worked out the best..

On my 94, I have a Thrush turbo with this tailpipe and no cat (bought it that way). It sounds pretty good when the rpm's get up but nothing overbearing. But you can tell that it is NOT a stock muffler. My engine is stock with stock exhaust manifold. I first had a Thrush welded on which is essentially a Flow Master. Way to loud and ricey like...unless that's what you're looking for. My motor's stock and with your's being built, the welded would probably be louder than my truck unless you added a resonator.
