Have an 1985 22re that i am working on, and i want to test the oil pump, is there a way to prelube this engine??? also is it common for an oil pump to go out on these motors.

Thanks

Prelube. Not sure how to test it without having it bolted on and starting the engine. From reading your other thread, sounds like your doing a teardown? If that is the case, might as well just get a new one and not worry about it.

There's no way to measure volume short of a major ordeal...
Just check to see that the spines on the pump itself and drive are not worn.
They're cheap.. Honestly, I replace them when rebuilding, but for minor stuff - like heads/front covers, I wouldn't worry about them unless you're having oil pressure issues.

Prelube as mentioned above. On rebuilt motors, I've seen the pumps not prime without being pre-lubed.
Best way to check it is to pull the plugs and turn it over until you register (or see) oil pressure.

I tells how to check an oil pump for wear using a feeler guage in Haynes service manual -- but i'm not sure about the details
