22RE Miss then dies
We have a 1989 Toyota 4runner with a 22RE Fuel injected.. It's got a miss in it when you accelerate. The truck dies when you put it in gear. I checked the codes and it's throwing a 52 and a 21. I looked up the 21 and it says oxygen sensor which would come up anyways because the sensor is unplugged. I can't find 52 anywheres. Can anyone help me out??

51 is knock sensor.
double check your timing is at 5 BTDC, reset the ECU by unplugging the fuse in the kick panel (or disconnecting the battery) for 1 minute, then see how it goes.

Most likely its the TPS (Throttle Position Sensor) It will make your engine do some crazy stuff. Misfire, ilde ruff and die.I have ran into this a lot on different trucks that i've worked on,try that first and see what happens. If thats not it let me know and ill think on it somemore. The TSP is on the front left side of the air intake across from you throttle cable, between the valve cover and the air intake above the water neck. In case you didn't know

Not sure what fuse.. It was a 30 amp something lol.. But the gas tank caught on fire so we kinda have to fix that before we can fix the fuel pump .. Pretty sure that's what was wrong. It was running a lot better.

We fixed the fuel pump.. They epoxy-ed up the top so the wires don't short out and cause another fire lol.. The truck is out there running now and it sounds better than it did before we put the new (used) pump in. Maybe we found it?? I guess we'll have to wait and see..
