I'm considering rebuilding the engine out of my '87 runner. What block work do you guys like to do. This will be a stock build with a new head. Oh yeh its a 22re.

Ok, thats a start. It will get a bore job. Do they make a deck plate for that?
Nothing else out of the ordinary on these engines? I am not familiar with these engines is why I'm asking.

When I went to a machine shop to get my 22RE head workd on - the owner / chief machinsit spent 30+min chatting with me about
-- goals for the motor and car
-- budget I had to spend

THen we discussed what he could do, what if might yeild and how much it might cost.

IMHO your machinst shoudl do the same.

If its a pure "we did waht yo told me to" type of shop and you are asking Q here on the list "what should I do"... it sounds like a recipie for disappointment...

Ewong, you misread me a bit, I think.

I agree totaly with talking to the shop abuot goals etc.
But some engines have quirks that need to be addressed during a build for various reasons. Like I'm seeing that toyota engines have head gasket issues if the job isn't done just so. Those are the things to take care of while you are into the heart of the beast.

ooops... my bad.

The machinist I went to for head work was familiar the the engine.

Told me that since I could still see hatch marks in the bore, to check for flatness and if it was - leave it alone... (based on my budget rebuild). I put another 100K on it.. (rings are getting weak, but at 350K I guess I really cant complain about that)

I already had the dual row conversion kit for the chain. I left that alone.

im having the same thing done to my 87,,head was shaved,borred .030 over,and crank turned .025 with over sized bearings11 good luck
