It's the crappy level of fit and finish of the Pacesetter Flange. Some people double up gaskets and coat gasket sealer inbetween. Some people grind the flange surface for a better seal. What ever works with cheap headers.

Yea get rid of that pacesetter header. Search on here about the countless guys who never get those things to seal. Nothing will seal it long term...however some have had some luck with the remflex gaskets.

Take a look at the flange on a Doug Thorley or LC Engineering header and then look at yours. They use a 3/8 inch flange and it dosen't warp. If yours is warped, then nothing will seal it.

My first truck was an '82 and I had an early Downey header on it, had the same problem.

Sounds funny, but I used to soak the gasket in water overnight, then installed it, torqued the bolts.

Started the truck, let it heat up, shut it off, wait till it cooled, and then re-torqued the header.

It lasted at lot longer that way.

I used to have the same problem with my doug thorley. I'd get the copper high-temp gasket maker and put liberal amounts of that sstuff around every port and hole. It was a big mess, but it worked.

Is the problem that the flange is warping, or that it comes warped? If it's the latter of the two, just get the flange milled at your local machine shop, slap in a new OEM gasket and call it a day.

If the header flange continues to warp, then it's junk.
