22re idle update.
Some of you have read my threads concerning an 86 22re and my rough idle problems.
So far I've taken a look at the Dashpot thingy and it seems to be causing some of my surging, I'll eliminate it or tie it down to see if that stops. I also looked at the EGR valve and talked to some of the emissions folks and I can't take it off since they check to be sure it's there. I wish I could just cap the dang thing......
I also read about a hundred posts on Seafoam and had thought to go the route of putting some in the intake but everytime I pull off a major vacuum hose (i.e. the PCV hose, the other one on the intake, the brake booster etc) the motor dies. Any idea what causes that?
What I plan to do is clean the TB, carefully so as not to mess up the Throttle Position Sensor, and run some Seafoam in the fuel tank. I contacted the PO and she told me that they had to run some injector cleaner in it last time to get it to pass emissions.
So this weekend is going to be busy and I'll update ya'll with any findings so that maybe the next person doesn't go out and blow a handful of cash on things that ARE NOT the cause of the rough idle.
Laters!
quick edit. I called the folks that did the work for me and was told that the TPS wasn't working correctly and that they didn't clean the TB since the TPS was sticking. WTF!?!?!!?!? You'd think that information like that would be something that the owner of the vehicle should know!
So where do I buy a new TPS? Or better yet how do I clean the dang thing???
Time for more searching.........

Buy one from toyota. Whenever you buy a part that you don't want to fail again, suck it up and pay extra for the genuine toyota part. I've learned the hard way. Plus I've heard that you can rebuild the TPS. I said screw it and I just bought a new one. I forget what I paid, it's been a few years.

what I have done for sea foam is pull the brake booster hose from the TB then I put a 2 foot section from a air hose on the TB then find a bolt I can cap it off with start the truck pull the bolt quickly stick it in the can and let it suck up the sea foam.

I started having strange idle issues one day. My TPS wasn't closing all the way and triggering the idle signal. Following these instructions solved all my problems. Really easy to do. My TPS was fine. No need to replace. Just needed a cleaning
