22re Hi-idle and code 43 ECM?

Hello All,

First off I'm new to the board. I have a 93 4cyl, 5 speed 4x4 Xcab truck. I haven't owned the truck for very long.
I do have a few problems....

1. Idle w/ ac on goes from hi idle to normal but only when the brakes are depressed. How in the heck do the brakes have anything to do w/ the ac I have no idea.

2. Now that's it's getting cold in Kansas. I've noticed the idle, after driving and coming to a stop, idles up to 2k. I can use the clutch and lug it down to the regular idle but thats getting old.

3. Went out and checked the codes. The code is 43. Something about ecm not getting signal or something along those lines.

4. I've also noticed the engine pings like a mother. The truck has 31in tires and stock gearing, not helping the lug factor. The plugs looked like someone filed the electrode down at an angle.

5. Also have a crack in the exhaust pipe right in front of the o2 sensor. I doubt thats helping.

I know this is a lot of stuff. So please baer w/ me. I do have a complete 22re engine and injection system so I do have some parts that I can swap and play around w/.

you may need to idle down some. the brake signal tell the motor you are slowing down and the motor cuts fuel or something like that.

don't ride your clutch you will only wear it out.
have you checked the timing?

I checked the timing. That all looked good. Did the paper clip deal and timing retared to the right degrees btdc.
I have been leaking a little antifreeze lately. The drain plug wasn't all the way tight. Kinda hard to tighten when the wing part broke off.
Coolant was low due to this. I topped it off.
Maybe air around the coolant temp sender.
I think the super high idle 2k is happening just when its cold.
I also fixed the crack by the o2 sensor.
Thanks for the reply

look real close all around the head gasket with the engine running to check for leaks as well. my truck idles high when first started, but my 4runner does not. go figure.

Read this about your idle.

Go here about your code (it may have something to do with your pinging):
http://personal.utulsa.edu/~nathan-b...ne/44engin.pdf

On page EG1-216 test for voltage at the terminals labeled "STA- E1" (see the diagram for location) at the back of the connectors on the ECM. Don't pull the terminal connector, just probe into the back of it where the wires go in. There should be a little "flap" you can unsnap on the plastic connector to access the copper. Should be 6-12 volts for a good signal. You'll need an inexpensive volt/ohm meter for this. It's not hard or even "dangerous", just don't touch the terminals on the ECM itself and be careful while handling it.

Get new plugs....
