22re HG dilemma
New to this site and will say it is great!!
I pulled my 22re out to do a HG and rear main, This was supposed to be rebuilt 12 thousand miles ago, well its out and looks good. So i check the head bolts for spec and all are good except for the one next to the firewall and on drivers side, one full turn before it hits 58lbs, the plate on the back of the head looks to be leaking oil. This is the area i thought the HG blew.
Everything looks new, the HG, seals up front, the timing chain all look new!!!
Do you think that one bolt can let enough water in to look like the HG blew?
What would you guys do?..........thanks kurt

eh, the bolt thing, it could be... but if I'm reading that right you pulled the motor out to do the HG and rear main? honestly, if you went through all that trouble, I wouldn't put it to chance; I'd get a new set of heat bolts, and a HG kit, and go ahead and redo the HG, just my opinion
and the oil leak out of the back; that plate has coolant behind it, not oil; I'm willing to bet the oil you're seeing is from that semicircle in the valve cover gasket leaking

The engine was rebuilt 12 thousand miles ago, I bought the truck a yr ago with 300 miles on the moter. Shortly after i bought it i noticed the rear main was leaking. one week ago i got water in the oil, figured it was the HG, now i noticed one head bolt was loose, can that be enough for water to get in the oil?

and I still have the same responce as before...
the bolt COULD cause that, but to be safe, I'd redo the HG while you're in there and throw on a new set of bolts

Yes that one bolt can be enough.
Just redo it gasket and bolts , the oil at the back is valve cover gasket or half circle plug at the valve cover.
good luck !!
