22re header ?

i am going to get an intake made, and make a 2.25" exhaust with single in/out flowmaster and high flow cat, and im going to installl a header.

my question is what brand do you suggest? i was thinking thorley, its like 235. is that a good brand? also will the air tube located on/over the stock ex manifold be used? or do i even need it?

Ive heard downey was a good header and thorley, but what engine are you working w. and i belive the air tube will be used. I think it deals w/ emmisions but im not sure.

When I researched headers, I found that LC Engineering and Thorley were best. I was going to get an LC Engineering one, but I changed my mind because they raised the price to $350. I was thinking about welding a 2" or 2.25" pipe on the lower part of the stock collector (I think that is what it is called, the part after the manifold). This would also involve getting a new Y connector. This would take out a lot of the restriction in that pipe. I am not sure if it would be as good as a header, but it would be a lot cheaper.

the best fitting header is a lce i had one and it was awsome it cost a little more but its stainless steel and ceramic coated

Here is the thread I did a few months back on what I found. I ended up with LCS and a car sound cat, with a 60 series flowmaster... it was AWESOME for the 1K miles I put on it before my HG blew.

^ pretty much what i did but i got a flowmaster delta 40 and wow did that make the 22re sound sweet

what year is your rig? you may not need the cat. i believe early 90's had basically a hi flow cat stock.

yep...but a aged cat gets clogged and looses flow, they wear out just like the rest of the exhaust.

thanks for your help guys, i think im gonna go with the lce header, its seems to be the nicest and about the same price as the coated thorley.

i was just looking on ebay and at summit's ebay store i found teh thorley header with bung for O2 for 200 inc shipping, think it is worth it to just pick that one up?

by o2 bung, you mean the connecter pipe from the header to the cat? since in 92 the o2 sensor is back by the cat?

Personally, I had a non cermaic header, and it was fine.. but I now have a ceramic and like it much better.

ya the connector pipe has the spot for the sensor, and its a non coated, i think i can deal. you think its worth the extra 150? im kinda strapped for cash....

just ordered a ceramic coated thorley for 261! the un coated was only 202, but i figured it wouild be worth a lol extra. also got me a magnaflow cat for 63. not a bad deal i think

so now im looking into a header...

which of LCE's headers are you looking at? I only saw the one thats made for a 22re/turbo and its $765...a lil much for me. The rest are 22r headers (I assume they work for 22re as well?) but they seem like theyre for street/racing applications? Which one should i be looking at?

the 22r is the same as the 22re you want to order the street header kit

not nessesarily true, i bought a 22r header and it didnt work w/ my 22re. but i would trust the company and look at the bolt pattern, thats where i got screwed.
