This thread is awesome! I have a 94 22RE stock as far as I know running 31x10.50x15. I average 21-25 highway with a lot of exhaust leaks. Just put in the new engine and fixed pipe leaks. I will post back once i break her in.

You all should join Fuelly.com. It's a nice way to track mileage.

I just got my first Toyota truck.. it's a stock 1992 fuel injected 22re 5 speed 2wd. I got 25mpg on my first tank without a muffler with mixed highway and city driving. Now that the muffler is on, I'm going to shoot for 30mpg.

Mine's an 86' 4runner 2.4L 22RE with about 8k on a rebuilt engine, royal purple everywhere applicable, except engine oil(about to change to full synthetic), 5 spd, and 31x10.50x15s with 4.10 gears, LCE header, Magnaflow cat and Flowmaster 40s. Averaging about 18-20 mpg city and 20-25 highway. Usually get up to 25 on the longer highway drives.

10K on 22re with full flow cat.
17mpg mixed driving and 22mpg highway
I have a set of 28" tires and a set of 31" tires with 410 gears. After adjusting the odometer reading for the different size tires, I get about the same milage with either set up.

91 pickup 22re with 180,000 as of the foot of my driveway tonight when i got home from work. 5 speed, 4x4, 31x10.5R15 tires, swapped the muffler out for a thrush welded muffler last week.

I get about 16.5 to 17.25 mpg right now with the long warmup times, exhaust leak off the header, and a damn CEL throwing a lean code in my face that i CANT figure out for the life of me.

Summer time is much better though, best tank I had was about 24mpg and that was the long haul up to my parents. I made it there and almost 3/4 the way back on one tank!

Your mpg dropping in the winter is probably due to the 4high, colder temps mean denser air = better performance, I would think better MPGs....good MPGs

Plus they use different fuel during the winter which lowers your MPG

Yeah I did not even think of that, I know the crappy E10 where I live kills my MPG in the yota and my Subaru WRX. Funny the owners manul for my 4Runner specifically states NOT to uses any fuel with methanole, and if you must then at the first chance fill up will 100% gas. There is one gas station where I live that still sells 100% gas, both cars get better MPGs.

mostly stock 5 spd, 410 gears, 30x9.50 tires, Unknown mileage, No cat w/ cheap summit muffler and straight exhaust. Odometer is broke so its hard to be exact but ive been using gps unit and calculated im getting around 15+mpgs/city. I havent done enough highway driving to know highway mpgs. But it seems good.

Keep this thread alive!!

87 long bed, about 5k on the rebuilt 22re, auto to manual swap last month.

before the swap I struggled to get 15mpg with the auto. Now with the w56 and synth gear oils, I'm getting 23mpg easily on the HW.

In my opinion you guys with stock gears and larger tires, shouldn't be posting your inflated MPG without GPS or at least mapping out the mileage online and dividing the fill up.
