22RE engine swap... ECU question

So first of all thanks to all the quick responses yesterday. I got my blown engine out of my 4runner and am just about to pull the donor engine. The car with the blown engine is a 1992 4runner 5speed 4X4 and the donor is a 1994 4runner 5 speed 4X4. both are 22RE. I was just wondering if i should keep the wiring and ECU from the 92 or if i needed to swap the ECU and wiring from the 94 with the new engine. I was looking at the wiring, and it all looks the same except for the oil pressure sending unit. I am pulling this engine today and need a running car by this weekend so any help is appreciated, an i did already search it. the problem is i found conflicting results. some said engine will not run with new ECU, and others said they need the old ECU. but it makes sense to me that the new ECU should work with the new engine right? Anyway any help would be appreciated. Thanks again. this site is incredible. i am not a mechanic, but with the resources here i have been able to do all the repairs i ever needed on 2 4runners but hopefully after this I won't need to do too many repairs anytime soon...

I just swapped a 1994 22RE into my '88 Pickup 3 weeks ago. I am using the '88 ECU and harness to control the '94 engine and it works just fine. I didn't have the option to use the '94 ECU/harness since it didn't come with it. I have an aftermarket oil pressure sender so I don't know if that connection was different. If it is just swap the senders. I had to swap coolant temp sensors since the connections on the harness were different.

Edit: I just remembered I swapped the plenum, throttle body and fuel rail/injectors from the '88 to the '94 since I knew those worked with my harness and I wanted to be able to sell the '94 parts. Not sure if you would need to do it or not.

there are two different sensors that can go into that port on the block. one is an oil pressure switch. it controls an on/off light in the gauge cluster. that would be on the 3 gauge cluster. the other is a sending unit for a variable load/reading used by an actual gauge. that would be on the 6 gauge cluster. there are variants of both most likely, but they should all be the same reading range. if you do have the gauge, and put in the switch...it will usually cook the gauge. if you have the 3, and want the 6, just use the sending unit and swap the clusters. the wiring is the same from the factory. 89-91 had mechanical speedo, 92-95 is electronic. you have two of the same style, so go for it. also, the 6 gauge is diserable to guys with the 3 gauge, so sell it if you dont need it.

i also have a question for ya. is the dash on the parts truck the hard plastic style or the padded style? im looking for a new one, mine squeeks at the window. broken studs.

oh, and is the parts truck coil rear or leafs?
