22RE engine serial numbers?

(referring to # that's stamped onto pad located on drivers side of block - behind the alt.)

Where can i find when these were cast??

I have 2 blocks & heard somewhere that some years were better than others, so just info that's always good to know.

I tried the dealer & he told me to ask a junk yard to look it up. I think this guy's just lazy....and for all the $$ I spend there, you'd think he'd help me out with such a simple task. < end rant >

Anyway, if you have info point me in the right direction.........

Cheers!

in the 22R/22RE years, there weren't really any differences in the blocks, unless you go early vs late. i'm not sure there is any really useful casting numbers on these blocks. a late block will have a turbo oil return boss on it that's shaped like a flying saucer on the driver's side.
