it should pull away from the tranny with no problem once you have the bolts off the tranny. make sure EVRYTHING is disconnected. double check....

Also might not be a bad idea to pull the radiator out so you have a little more clearance and don't end up ruining the rad (don't ask how I know). Pull it out slowly and be sure there aren't any grounds still attached or wires hung on anything.

Yeah! I would really hope that has already been done...Ii would NEVER try to pull a motor with the radiator anywhere near the swinging hung o metal and crap. LoL

yeah ive got the rad out, powersteering pump moved, header off, intake off, valve cover off heater lines, vac lines all electronic wires off minus altenator wires that'll take two seconds, motor mount nuts off, tranny brace off, then a few more tranny bolts!!! so the pressure plate no bolts need to come out? cause im leaving the tranny in the truck and putting a running 22re in it, blew a rod in this one hahaha no more 4 foot water holes for me!!!

Pressure plate is bolted to the flywheel and will come out with the engine, when engine is out then the pressure plate is then removed if tranny staying in the truck...

Pic of pressure plate on engine before I put it in, so that's the way your 22re will come out...

The hardest part is getting the wire harness out of the way. The 22re is easy once this is done

You might have to remove the starter too...I had to take out the starter on the 3.0.

another question guys!!!!! and thanks so much for all the help so far guys!! what is the easiest way of getting at the top 3-4 tranny bolts can get at them from the firewall or is it easier to go from the underside and use a ˟˟˟˟˟ load of extensions to get at the bolts!?

1st thing to make it really easy is to take hood off after marking around the hinges to make it easier to align hood to put it back on, If your going to tear apart engine when it out, Y not take off head while it's in the truck and that makes easy access to the top tranny bolts, I did that, but once you go to put new engine in there not that hard to get too with the head on, just gets something to stand on on the ground beside the tires to get you over the engine by the firewall, I used left over laminated 2x12 beam cut offs, when there stacked and nailed together they make great standing platforms and riser to put floor jacks on to reach higher items underneath like trans and transfer case's.
When re-installing the upper bolts it helps to be nimble with your fingers and turn the bolts to get threads started then I used a 17mm open end wrench to tighten those upper bolts. I read about using 3 foot long extensions to do bolts from underneath but I got the bolts back on on a 22re just fine the way I described. the drivers side down the side was the easiest "no starter". the passenger side little more complicated, and there is a bolts that's above the slave cylinder that like to hide!!!!
This was my first 22re and I had no problems at all just take your time and keep all bolts in a ziplock bag and write where there from and if you end up with an extra bolt like I did and that's where the hidden bolt by slave cylinder comes into play :}LOL Have FUN!!!!

Not to be a smart ass and since I'm guess from no pics, but did you remove the 2 bolts on each side of the motor on the engine mounts? 2 14mm bolts on each side, You might want to invest in a digital camera if you don't have one, there really cheap now, Pics help out a ton on here!!!!
Good luck and Have fun...

Ps. I tried to answer your PM but your not recieving any (blocked), so I answered it here on the thread...

Pulling 22-re motor.

[Always remove the upper intake manifold first when dealing with the wire harness. Leave it off when you reinstall.
It is an easy job, and facilitates wiring, and plumbing. Just did this job on my 86' 22-ret QUOTE=iselloil;51790609]The hardest part is getting the wire harness out of the way. The 22re is easy once this is done[/QUOTE]
