22re Engine refresh questions.

HI,

I've got a few questions on what you guys would do. I've got a 1988 4runner with the 22re and it's got, 220,000 miles on the original engine. It runs perfect now not even a tick, but I would like to make this truck last a long time. Right now, I may be buying an engine out of a 1985 pick-up with the 22r with, 140,000 miles on it. I would like to refresh this engine before I put it in my truck. I'm debating between buy an engine kit from engnbldr on e-bay or going to Toyota and buy main bearings, rod bearings and piston rings and an aftermarket gasket set and probably an oil pump too, and a timing gear set with metal guides of course. When I look at engnbldr's stuff on e-bay it sounds pretty nice and he offers a few different cams, but I have no idea what cam I would want. Any pointers would be great.

Engnbldr has a huge following on every Toyota forum I read. His stuff is supposed to be first rate.

I got one of his timing chain kits with the steel backed guide and so far am satisfied with the initial quality of it and the service I got.

The master rebuild kits are supposed to be just as good.

I know subliminaltrips used it and has been happy with it.

engnbldr's stuff is very good quality, i've never had any trouble with it.

that said, you can't go wrong with the dealer either, but be prepared to pay!

if it were me i would get the bearings and rings aftermarket but i wouldnt do anything but oem gaskets or you will be resealing everything again soon.

hell i priced everything for my rebuild seperatly and even left the timing chain set out ,cause i already had one ,and its still cheaper to get the rebuild "kit" from him.
