22re Distributor

Don't know if this has been asked before or if this can be done. I am being offered a 22re 1993 Distributor, but my truck is a 1987 distributor 22re. They said that you can use the distributor from the 1993 22re, just have to cut the connector and splice the connector from the 1987 22re onto the 1993 22re distributor. Since I'm not familiar with hacking this, does anyone out there know if this can be converted?

I'm guessing no one has tried this or attempted too. My guess is that it can not be done. Looking over the specs it seem that from 1990 forward some of the distributors has a generator ass located inside of it and the 80's doesn't. So I'm going to say no it can't be done.
