22re Dies at Idle When Warm, EFI relay clicks
Sorry I searched everywhere and could not find this issue already discussed.
I have an 1989 pickup with the 22re, and it runs great when cold or when i am giving it gas. However, it will often die at idle after it has reached operating temperature. I can hear the click from the efi relay in the footwell on the passenger side.
I've replaced the AFM and can't find any vacuum leaks pre-throttle body...

The EFI relay will click once with key on Engine off.
Why would you have the engine rebuilt again? Have you checked the condition on your motor? Compression? Carbon build up? Noise? Excessive internal oil consumption?
If you take it too a shop and have the engine rebuilt depending on the machine work and how "worn out" the engine is it will cost around 900-2000.

Thanks for the suggestion! I took a look at it, but i couldn't see any leaks. What I cant figure out is why it only happens when my engine is at operating temperature. It idles great when the engine is cold, and it idles low but doesn't die when it is warm but not 100% at temperature.

This almost sounds like the aux air valve is staying open when it should shut as the engine gets warmed up. Theres a hose on the left side of your throttle body that goes down towards the bottom of the engine, this is an aux air hose.
While the engine is cold, pinch the hose closed. The aux valve is open, allowing air to travel through the hose, so the RPM should drop noticeably when this hose is pinched.
When the engine warms up close to operating temp, the valve will close. Pinch the hose again, but this time the RPM should barely drop, no more than 50 RPMS.
Just a thought, its an easy test to do

Went through that already. Temp gauge was broke replaced it. Its not running too hot. I can drive it all day and be fine except when I come to a stop. I played with the throttle for a bit and its very random when it dies.

Well now I am really at a loss cuz my 4runner doesn't start after it warms up and dies. I have to let it cool down before it starts. But I know it's not over heating

Maybe bad ignition coil or coolant sensor, did you check those?
