22RE Deckplate Mod

22RE Deckplate Mod
I did a search and found little info on this. Plenty of info on the bigger yota engines, but not the 22re. Has anyone around here done this to their 4 banger? If so, was it worth it? What size of deck plate did you use?

One of the previous owners of my 4runner removed the intake tubing behind the headlight and that little tube thats at the bottom of the airbox. I wouldnt say it increases power, but it makes it sound awesome.

Took me 5 minutes...
Results are: Cant really tell a power gain, But definately made a deep awesome sound...
Im putting a screen in front of the hole.VVV.Because I seem to get a lot of leaves in my airbox...lol
What was in front of the original intake tube...
Again...
I've only driven it around the block...So maybe I will feel a HP gain, maybe not... Who cares? It sounds awesome either way!

I've done it on my 3vze. it doesn't do anything except add a faint air induction noise. if you want a gain, do a FIPK K&N kit and intake battery swap.

I did this tonight {minus actual deck plate, but with hole like pic above}...it has a strange low pitched rattle at low rpm or idle, almost like something is loose or vibrating...is that just the air pressure as it hits a certain pitch making that rumble?

Y'know I've got a boring weekend coming, I may just do this for fun and a lack of better things to do. Do ya think you could pipe in a snorkel to that? Not looking at mine right now, but I might size it up when I'm in there... And I wonder if this'll change my PAIR honk on decel...

In automotive parlance the "deck" is the top of the engine block, and "deck height" is a somewhat complicated measurement related to the piston, rods and crank, bushing and bearing offsets and the engine block, though is generally the measure from the centerline of the crankshaft to the top of the engine block.
A deck plate is a physical "guide" used to center boring and honing tools along the centerline of the cylinder bores. It's use is indespensable for blueprinting an engine, and just as valuable when performing over-boring and honing on such a modified engine.
Loosely speaking, a deck plate mod could be anything that changes the horizontal aspects of something.
Changing vertical aspects would be bulkhead modifications.

Hey now. Not everybody needs a couple thousand posts to know anything. Sometimes, its better to get Abe to explain it right the first time, see? If ya can't contribute...well, ya know.
