22re clutch in an 86 4Runner
Hello all. Was hoping for some input on a troubling clutch. Recently I rebuilt the motor in my 4Runner, and after completion I went for a shakedown run around the block. I noticed the clutch pedal was a quite a bit firmer, and when clutch pedal is released I go nowhere. I can also shift through the gears without even pushing the clutch pedal.
When I was pulling the engine, I carefully examined the clutch. It was nearly new. I even had a couple of Toyota master techs (I work at a Toyota dealership) give it the once over and they confirmed that it was in very good condition.
I have examined the slave cylinder, and it appears to be functioning. And even pulled the boot and looked into the bell housing and everything looks good as well.
I know I have to pull the trans, but was just looking for some insight as to what might be the issue. The trans was never touched when the motor was pulled, and I am 99% sure I put the clutch disc in correctly. I am going to check the bleeder valve today to see if there is excessive pressure in the lines. But if I never touched them they should still be ok right?
I guess I'm just procrastinating about lying on my back pulling the trans. Thanks for the help!
