22RE broke a timing chain guide

So here is the story, my 22re broke a timing chain guide so i put a new one in. Later that day it was idleing like at 500 rpm i knew my timing was off cuz i was having a hell of a time with the distributor so i left it so i could get to school in the morning. but here is the thing i tryed for hours to get the distributor right and i was useing my timing light and the timing notch was way off it was way on the left side of the timing marks so i ajusted it twards 5 degrease and it ran worse so here is my question

-would oil presure have any thing to do with it?
-did i screw somthing up?
-do my valves need to be ajusted
(and off the topic)
-would i have to redo the stop valve train to put in a 268 rv cam from engnrebldr
- also would a chip thing from ebay really help i think its a utp?

so if anyone could help or has the same problem post so i can get the full story lol

Your CEL should flash if it's connected correctly. Here's some help.

I would just get the valves adjusted while your in there, or a mechanic if you are taking it in.

My somewhat related question is: Is the timing chain tensioner operated by oil pressure? I was looking at a pic of a rebuild kit and thats what part of it seemed to be.

Thats a cool page. The fuel pump test reminds me of winter time with my dad. When going up to our cabin our suburbans fuel pump doesnt work very well, so we just have the special paper clip to rig it to be always on.

Did you just replace the broken guide?

Or did you replace the timing chain and sprockets? If you didn't was the chain loose? Did it wear a hole in the timing cover?

did you verify TDC ? #1 piston at top , rotor pointing to #1 on the cap , timing mark on top just a bit before 12 o'clock , First two rocker arms have a little wiggle room , bottom at 6 o'clock(ya I know hard to do with the front of the motor together) and correct link in line with mark on gears? I had to recheck mine and had the same symptoms and found the distributor to be off one tooth , when every thing was lined up correctly (distributor gear can move as you install it on the timing gear that's what happened in my case ) timing was at zero on the guide and the timing gun. I run mine at 8* on the gun and it works great now that I have the 268 ENGNBLDR cam.

No you do not need to replace the stock valve train to run the 268 just set the intake at 7 and the exhaust at 9 per his directions and you should be good to go , I just installed mine Thursday night corrected it Friday afternoon and it runs great now that I got the dist. set correctly.

E-Bay chip is a joke keep your money

268 reference below
