22RE Best/Easiest way to Install
I am reinstalling my 22RE engine. I am doing this myself. Does anyone know the best way to install the engine?
I know there are many options, one of which involves dropping the tranny or pulling it back after disconnecting the drivelines, etc. Bolting the engine first, then coming back with the tranny. Issue with that is that I don't have straps, tranny jack, etc. Again I am doing this solo, and hoping to find the best and easiest way to do this.
Should I just take my time and wiggle the engine back and forth "into" the transmission? Doing this, can It be easily done with the motor mounts already bolted to the engine? The mounts seem to give me a pain when dropping it back in, they get in the way "IF" installed on the engine frame. So I was thinking of trying it with them bolted to the engine instead?
Thoughts?

Forgot to mention...
Also forgot to ask about the electrical wiring harness "mount." Where the heck does it go bolted back on? I forgot to make a note of that. Now I can't figure it out and therefore can't figure out how to route the injector wires to the injectors.
Does it go bolted on the plenum? I am almost positive it does not bolt back to the engine block right? Any help would be great. Thanks.

I find it easier to move the trans back in the 2wd but if its 4x4 then I leave it alone.
Either way I take the hood off until shes running. Makes access a million times easier
Believe that part bolts to the front of the fuel injection plenum. There is a little extra stud there where it bolts to the lower manifold.

Yea, ill prob try without rwmovng the transmission first. What about the moints? On engine or on frame?
Yea, i know theres a ground that hooks up to the plenum. The mount does too?

What your trying to do is very difficult even when you know very well what your doing.
If you can not get any help there will be quite alot of crawling under then up top repeat a few thousand times.
You forgot to mention is it Auto or Manual ??
makes a big difference .
The lining things up can be real hard one should have at least 2 floor jacks with a clean floor.

Yea, it was. My buddy ended up.being.able to.show up. At that, we ended up disconnecting the drivelines and tranny mount bolts. Only to find out that the oil pan for an 86 does not fit an 88.5. The oil pan hits the ifs diff.
Its a manual tranny. I wish i would have washed down the floor too.
Do you why its so damn hard to merge them together? We tried for hours before giving into the unbolting tranny option.

Its hard because they have to be perfectly lined up in a straight line for the input shaft of the trans to fit into the clutch assy and the splines have to line up as well. Its a three dimensional problem

It was from a 2WD, the guy I bought it form had a lift and didn't remember that the engine came out of a 2WD. So I got that sorted out.
I got the engine in now, but still need to push about a half inch more to get the engine and tranny mated. I'm gonna give it a go tonight and see how it goes. Thanks for all the replies!

If the clutch has been loosened you'll need the alignment tool to recenter before tightening down pressure plate.
1/2" gap though sounds like it just isn't perfectly alight and wont go into pilot bearing/bushing.
Keep it all square and see if you can get a few housing bolts started and keep wiggling it until it closes up on its own.

Yea, i did realign it with a marlin clutch align tool i had back when i bought my clutch. I finally got it in. It was actually fairly easy. I first spun the crank just a tad, then dropped the tranny a midge and immediately heard it pop in place. I then went to the back of the tranny and kocked it a few times and done. Went inside to tell my wife i got it in. She said, "thats what he said."
Thanks guys for the help, now to play with the tps as a rookie mistake... i moved it. Ya, i know, issues. Well, you learn feom mistakes i suppose, especially dumb ones.
