22RE 5spd with 37s and 5.71s on the highway?
Will a truck with a 22re and 5.71s with 37s have any power on the highway, like enough to be a daily driver?

If your stock tire size is 28" and your stock gears are 4.10's, according to the gear calculator I just looked at, by going to 37" tires, you need to regear to 5.41 (closest to that is 5.29) to keep stock ratio's. Since you are going to 5.71's (or plan to?) your engine will have lower gearing which will help power on the highway but be a little on the revvier side which might actually help offset the slight power loss from having tires that are much heavier (heavier rotationg mass). Plus the 5.71's being lower will work better with your transfer case on the trail for crawling and stuff like that so it's probably the way to go. Just make sure you get your gears set up by a pro who knows his stuff as these gears I'm told are "touchier" than the higher gears (lower numerically).

this will help you figure out where that will put you rev wise, remember with larger tires you want to undergear a bit for the fact that you are turning much larger tires with more weight and such to them.

5.71s
You did have to ask this on the first day of dog season. If people think they are hard on their trucks, you have not seen anything. I finished setting up a set of used 5.71 Richmond fronts and Genuine Rears last night at about 1 am. Both have Detroit Lockers and solid crush sleeves, with the (now) proper pinion depth and bearing preload. The truck is a 1981 short bed, 5spd, round top 22R with a NWOR header and duel 38mm Weber carburetor. Tires are WELL used 38x12.50x15 Super Swamper TSLs on 15x10 Progressive Ultra Lites. The motor is a hard used 70k miles old, ran at at least 4500 rpm most of the time, and already has a wrist pin making some noise on cylinder 2, which seems to be common for some reason in my experience. This truck will still run an easy 70 on the interstate, only slowing down for the hills in NorLa. Keep in mind there is 2 200lb. guys in the truck, 2 rifles, a steel dog box and 4 dogs (350lbs.), tool box with tools (200lbs), 2 extra 3rd members, snacks and chains, and ammunition (200lbs).
This truck is not for rocks, but seems to be an exemplary example of our hunting buddies. Maybe the Toyota thing is just a fetish though, but mainly the reliability is because of the extensive use of original Toyota parts. Finesse will keep you from breaking parts, but 5.71s are pretty low, but shallow in tooth depth as well. I don't know what your set-up is, but I would be glad to help you further.
My boss and I have a '92 regular cab with a P.O.S. Trial Master 4" front SAW T-Bares, Rear SkyJacker 4.5" springs, 3" longer shackles, and TM shocks all the way around. A 3" PA body lift was added to easily clear the 38x13x16 Swamper TSLs on 16x8 steel black wagon wheels to go with the solid black truck. This truck has OPEN (hurl!) differentials and 5.29 gears. The engine consist of a Blane Owens bottom end, LCE Head and valves, and Headman Header. All the EGR, secondary air intake, and clean air system have been eliminated. This truck will EASILY run 70-80mph all day long. It is a rough ride because this truck was built for running dogs, but has plenty of power on the road.
Keep in mind that these trucks were not built for long time highway travel or rockcrawling. They were built for short, 55-70mph runs on rough blacktop and ridiculous, red, brown, and grey sloppy, nasty, stinky mud and water.
The 5.71 have proven reliable, but not quite as reliable as the 5.29s.

Like vinny said, they will be a little low but you will probably like it..The masses tent to stay away from the 5.71 's...They don't mix well with big tires and rock crawling (if that's what your into )
based on other peoples experience....I have never ran 5.71's personally

I would not have my best bud put them in for me I'd have a quality gear install done.
ZUK
PS- I've run lower gears than even the 571 ratio.....I had a 92 Yota flatbed that had Dana 44's both ends with 36" Iroks and 589 gears....they ruled! The 589 gears saw the highway and went on 500 mile trips.

What....are you psychic or somethin'? Or did he actually contact you?
(Ya know, I haven't forgotten about those pics. All on the camera disc. Just waiting on "someone". Did I mention how pleased I am? The more I use those springs, the buttery they get....and still no sag. 1600lbs a few weeks ago. )
