Well since no one has chimed in I realized I didn't check valve spring tension or a compression test.I'm still gonna try the cleaner first because truck sat for so long.

how were you able to identify that #3 is the problem. when you pulled the caps you had no change in any of the cylinders? what did the plugs look like?

All plugs looked the same.Ipulled the plug wires off one at a time. There was no change when I removed #3plug wire.I checked the rotor and cap.looked ok.Getting spark with tester connected to plug wire.swapped plugs with #2 .I will remove the valve cover tomorrow and check all the valves for proper movement.I read in another post ,that someone found something in fuel rail.someone else found something in the intake manifold,I've been very happy with this runner getting 24mpg for the last month since purchase. Thanks for the replies too .

va slim was right.# 3 and 4 injectors completely clogged. 2 had some in it also.gonna clean them and put it all back together.I'm with slim if it has sat for a while you may need to check the injectors.Mine has ran great for a month .I don't see.I can't wait to see how she does now.

Well after working on the 3.0 for the last ten years. It's kind of fun wrenching on this 22re.I didn't like working on the 3.0 with all the vacuum lines and no room. It was a good reliable engine except no power and terrible fuel economy.I work on big trucks all day .Don't get me wrong I want to drive it more than work on it but I don't hate working on this one like I did my 95 3.0

I don't mind turning wrenchs, its rolling around on the floor in the cold antifreeze-oil mixture.
