22r won't idle below 1500rpm, dies...
So my '87 22r is having issues.
Long story short, I dropped in a remanufactured carb as well as a new fuel pump. Probably could have done some more research first, but oh well.
Firstly, I haven't checked the timing yet, because I don't have a timing light yet, so if anyone thinks that could be causing my problem and all of this other speculation is useless until I check that then by all means let me know.
So, the problem: The idle speed is set to about 1500 rpm right now, but it idles sort of rough and if I try to set the idle speed lower (e.g. to 700 rpm like it should be) it sputters and dies. This is the slow idle, once the engine is warmed up. It will fast idle ok when its cold, and I checked the choke, its working fine for a cold start and opens up all the way once the engine is warm, so no problems there. I've adjusted the float to be within specs. I set the idle mix to 4 turns from closed, which I believe is the spec, but it seams like even if I adjust the idle mix in either direction it doesn't affect the idle at all. I sprayed around the carb with some wd40 to check for leaks but it seems fine.
One guy mentioned checking the whole intake manifold, says the bolts are notorious for coming loose and that air might be getting in that way.
So it will idle at 1500, but if I drive it down the street and come to a stop and drop it in to neutral it will usually die. I guess it can't handle the quick drop in rpms.
Anybody have any ideas right off the bat?

I'm pretty sure, I have the same problem.
So far I have rebuilt the carburetor, replaced all the vacuum lines, replaced the distributor cap, rotor, plugs, and wires.
Still have the problem. I can turn the idle down, but when I come to a stop light it will sputter and die.
