Thumbs down 22r v.s. 22re on 88" t100

how you doing? I just got a 88" t100 4X4 it has A 22R AND FUEL INJECTION IN IT.IN THE BED IS A 22RE AND TRANSMISSION(EXTRA).I'M REPLACING A 2WD 86 CARBURATED W/ A 22R IN IT.THE T100 HAS SOME HESITATION AT THE LOW RPMS BTWEEN GEARS.I'M THINKING THERES SOME FUBAR USING THE 22R INSTEAD OF THE 22RE WITH FUEL INJECTION(MAYBE THE FUEL PUMP ISN'T THE SAME?).I COULD TURN IT INTO A CARBED 22R OR ANY COMBOS OF THE FOREMENTIONED VEHICLES,BUT I LACK THE COMMON SENSE THAT I'M SURE ALOT OF THE OTHER MEMBERS HAVE...URS TRUELY TOYO207

Good looking truck!! I beleive i am right in saying that the 22r (carbed) has a different pump than the 22RE (fuel injected).

Here is my question- You are wanting to change the carbed engine to a fuel injected one in your 2 wheel drive? or the engine in the truck was a 22r that has been changed to EFI? Sorry a little confused as to what you are wanting to know

judging by:
the original decals on side of cab
condition of stock chrome mirrors and grill
this is a very original truck worthy of stock restoration.
i like the stock steel wheels the most. probably never been offroad. keep the fuel injected motor in it.
original un messed with 4wd trucks of that vintage are like gold hens teeth.

terribly sorry about my lack of clarity. I have just purchased a 88 4wd p/u it's original engine(a 22re) was replaced with a 22r,but is still fuel injected.I have a 86 2wd p/u 22r(carbed) that needs to be put to pasture,(timing guides shot, only one parking space, cab mounts going,et cetra).the 88 4wd p/u came with the original engine (22re)+a new head. the original engine(22re)got a cracked head then the original owner put a new head on it heard what he described as lifter noise pulled the entire engine and replaced it with a 22r.I just want 1 kick ass truck, not 2 sissies and 3engines. anyway i hope this is an entertaining thread.(funny)and thanks for taking the time.
Oh man i did it again the words didn't come out right even when i'm typeing.I did find the edit button though so may be can redeem myself. I want to either carb this 88 4wd that has a 22r w/ efi (not quite right) or maybe just put in the fuel pump from the 22re that is in the bed of the truck.....i'm such a newbie that i totally have an excuse- thanks again-toyo207

i would personally make the best possible 22re with the 3 that you have and drop it in the 88. if i'm reading correctly you want to do a 22r, that's cool too if carbed is you preference....sorry if that's completely irrelevant.

andrew, thanks for your imput i don't know how to deal with this frankenstein.i imagine that maybe i could put a new fuel pump that is designed for the 22re onto the 22r that is mounted(maybe thats the only mod it needs?)or I could pull the efi manifold and convert the truck to carbed. (I have a 86 parts truck that is fully carbed/fully running)so the conversion wouldn't be to bad, maybe?or would result with me pulling the rest of my hair out... this forum is almost as fun as taking things apart thanks again -bb
