Question 22R '86 Pickup Hiccup - A cure?

My truck is awesome but it's driving crazy. My little truck runs great around town. However, when I drive about 75 miles from town and then try to return, my truck gets the hiccups. I live in Flagstaff AZ so to drive this far I lose approximately 2000ft of elevation. The truck still gets the hiccups even if I stay at my out of town location for 6 hours or longer. The hiccups first began when I was trying to go up steep hills and now have advanced when I am on the flats as well. They feel like I am pumping the brake rather hard and when I take my foot off of the gas, the truck coasts smoothly. They are not constant. The only thing I have found that gets me up the hills is flooring the gas peddle and not letting off until I am at the top of the hill. Last week I made it back to town but on a short hill to my house, I lost engine power. The truck would restart and then almost immediately die. Had it towed to my mechanic and when they went to start it the next morning, it would not start. They added gas and it did start. Told me I was out of gas but it only took 10 gallons to fill it and from my owners manual I understand it is a 17 gallon tank. My return drive today, I was able to keep the peddle floored but was only going ~35mph. Not conducive to highway travel.

Work done includes adjusting the carb, replaced plugs, wires, distributor, new fuel filter...and still she hiccups. Help!

Update: The truck would start this morning and then putter out and then die. Could not get her to run long enough to move.

My guess, bad carburator. Try a Sea Foam flush. Or of course rebuild the carb.
