225/75/15's tires with 4.56 gear ratio?

I have a 95 4runner SR5 V6 4x4

I need new tires, but 31's are expensive. Will it hurt anything for me to use a smaller tire size with 4.56 gear ratio. I live in Tahoe, so I'm going into winter season now. I need to be able to daily drive it as normal. Am I shooting myself in the foot going to a smaller tire? With it hurt anything besides inaccurate speedometer/gas mileage?

I don't do much offroading except occasional dirt roads. It's completely stock.

225/75/15 is more of a car tire. At least go with the LT235/75/15. This is about a 29 inch tire. It should be fine with the 4.56, just a built in overdrive.

That's what I would say also, and that's what I'm going to go down to pretty soon to replace my 31's. Personally I feel 31's make my nearly stock truck a little slow and sluggish because I mostly do highway driving.

The original off the lot tires on my 4cyl Dlx 4x4 regular cab model were 225/75/15 Bridgestones.....Dueler's if I remember correctly.

I recommend 30/9.50/15 its a great size for your truck. I like the Mastercraft Courser LTR or XTR this are great tires

Red face

It will increase the rpm slightly for a given speed not enough to get excited about.

I run 235/ 75 /15 I have no use for anything bigger for my mall crawler!!!

The size for most all yotas and runners is 225 75 15. unless you have the big wheel package where 31s come stock. I had 235 75 15s on mine and the truck loved it. (22RE)

Ended up going with 30x9.5 for nearly to the same price as the 235's

Thanks for the feedback everyone.
