1st gen: Snorkel Install - Easy?

Hey,
I have an 87 1st gen. Rough as guts.

I plan on installing a snorkel. I found some guides, but not many with useful instruction.

Can someone help with a simple guide?

My theory:

Drill hole,
Install snorkel to body,
Join the snorkel to the little pipe coming from the airbox (about 4-6" long, aiming toward the frame on the passenger side).

I have a 4Y motor and the airbox is on passenger side with a pipe going toward the frame/body.

Seems very easy, just not sure if it's correct.

I plan on rebuilding this donkey into something respectable!

So you are wanting to fab your own kit?

Just so long you have a flexible joint to allow for engine movement, everything else is pretty straight forward (getting the pipe out and up where you want it. I have seen them made out of everything from pvc to what looked like dryer vents. Lol.

Hahaha. nice.
I plan on buying a kit ($150). It says its a Hilux kit but meant to fit 4runners.
I thought of building one, but I do like to look of the sleeker ones.

This is the kit I'm after, I asked the bloke if it will fit an 87, got no reply though. Very rude.

Do you have a link to the snorkel kit you are looking at? I have yet to see one for 150.

Nevermind- you just posted it.

Yeah, bit of a delay. I'm just not sure of the body shape differences between 87 and 89.
I'd be easy to find some pipe to fit, just if the shape has changed. Could be ugly!

Edit: All the snorkels online seem to fit 89-97. Maybe the 87 falls under a different shape?

Damn...

Why not Safari snorkel? They make them for many varying body styles, so your should be covered.

Yours is prob the one close to the bottom. The SS65 I think.

Thanks. I was looking at those, but over $400 a pop. A little too rich for me.

is it okay to have the intake be in the cab? other than the noise being annoying is it alright to have your snorkel end up in the cab?

I don't think it would be an issue
I have never seen or heard of that before (4x4 is new to me).
How would it look/function?

Can't remember what vehicle it was but they were all designed to pull air from the cabin. Pulling air from inside is fine as long as you don't submarine it and fill up the interior (which is very possible).

Thanks fellas. I've bought a snorkel. I'll make it fit. Am I right to assume it fits to the end of the air box? The little pipe off to the right. Then time to paint the truck!
