1st gen seat cable fix
OK well I had got a pass seat cable to fix the seat, after I took a closer look at the new to me used cable it was frayed so what do I do?
well this is what I did...
I took one of the cables apart to see how it worked, then replaced the broken cable with one from the old cable.
ok this first pic shows the marks I made for how far the retainer will go and then I cut out a hole for the center cable to come out.
then I cut a small grove for the cable to pull out.
then I put the good center cable back in the hole the pushed it into the groove.
then I glued the groove with some locktite.
then wrapped it with black tape.
and here it is back on the seat.
this is the block that holds the cables inside the device
after doing this it is working fine I will see for how long if this fails I will use the other seat cable device and run new cables through it.
after looking at this I see how they made it is pretty simple.
what I did was a quick fix if I have to do it again I will use bike cable and get a crimper for the end things.

Awesome!
Great job and pics! :bigclap:
I had the exact same problem with my old 87 4Runner and I never figured out how to fix it. I tried opening the black box but was afraid I'd break it.
Thanks for doing the R&D to finally fix it
Erich

to get out the block you have to cut off the two ends off the side that has the two cables with mine one was broke so I cut off the other one to get the long cable for the other one.
tommarow I will go get some bike cable and try to make a good one out of the broken one.
I will take pics of it as I go.
