1st Gen Dash Pad- 2 styles?

I've searched high and low and cannot find an answer. It looks as if 1st gen runners have 2 styles of dash pad (and instrument cluster), but i'm only concerned with the dash pad. One pad has an indention the whole of the dash pad (see brown interior pic) and one pad has the indention only halfway (gray interior pic). Questions: are they interchangeable? I've seen clinometers on both the full and half indention, did they come on both? Which is original?

I have only seen the clinometer package with the full indent pad. I had a 87 runner that had the small indent and I added the clinometer to it.

They do interchange. Also the Bezel is different around the speedometer. Everything will interchange. The only thing that does not is the passenger side vent from one dash pad to another.

Sorry to resurrect a super old thread, but I have been trying to research this as well and I was under the impression that the cluster bezel and dash pads don't match up. From what I understand the 84-86 came with the smaller gauge cover (whatever that's called) and the dashpad with the long indent. Then in 87 they switched to a slightly larger, nicer looking gauge cover and the dashpad had the smaller indent. I thought I read somewhere on here that the cutout for the gauge cluster from the 87-89 doesn't line up with the dashpad from the 84-86?

They need the matching year cluster bezel to work in any model year 84 thru 89.
