1st Gen 4runner rear corner panel protection now available!

looks pretty badass, maybe make them more straight looking without the jagged right side or have it a big slope edge from top left to bottom right. also they seem pretty pricey. but in the end probly well worth the money. but i already have dents in that region so i dont know.

Possibly down the road. Pickups and 2nd gen 4runners are in the works. If I can get enough interest from 3rd gen people, then I will seriously consider it. The hardest part is finding a decent panel on a wrecked rig to work with to reverse engineer.

BTW, these will cover up dents.

Meh ... I would like to see one installed.
IMHO, they would be a waste on a 2nd gen - would just lead to more glass damage. I can't tell you how many times my mini-exo has saved my bacon back there ...

Its not meant to save glass, just the body panel that swings around and smacks stuff all the time.
We sent them back today to have them drilled and counter sunk, and we will have them mounted by the end of the week.

My feedback. Not trying to pee on your campfire. I always like folks who think outside the box so I applaud your efforts.
Why? Rear custom bumper with rear panel tubing seems like a simpler solution.
Seems like it will trap moisture and promote rust like those chrome fender trims.
Not really a corner like I was thinking before I looked at the pics. Just simply the rear fender quarter. I got tired of denting mine even after a bob so I just cut it all off.
I hope it works out for you but I dont see it catching on. Sheet metal is overrated anyway.

With a bead of silicone on the edges, moisture can't get in. Its no different than every Jeep you see with corner panel protection. They don't all rust away underneath.

I like the design also. I'd need to read a review of the fit/finish.

They are a little pricey.
How about an aluminum plate option of the same design, but less weight.
Buying this will also be weighed against buying a solid protective bumper, like what Marlin sells. However, the Marlin bumper won't handle significant tow weight - so we either custom fab our own or consider something like this.
I like 'em... How do you get them to conform to the body lines that well?

i dont get it....... with you holding it its way to far to the front.... and in the pic of the truck with the dent your "saver" wont even help that..... i guess i just dont get the need for it plus i think dents give a rig some flavor if you cant off road it and have it show then why do it in the first place a truck is for getting dented and dirty not car shows think about it CAR show not TRUCK show unless its off roading 101 or something i just dont get it sorry

The point of the panel is to take a hit and disperse the load over the entire area(just like a rock slider) to keep the damage at a minimum. Its fine that dents give character, but not everyone wants to beat their rig up. These panels are designed for clean rigs. Built or not, and for those that wheel hard and don't like body damage.
For those that feel the need to risk damage, then that is fine with us. I've seen plenty of rigs take shots in that area even with wrap around bumpers. Some even take out the tailgate or push the panel far enough over to keep the tailgate from opening/closing.
The way I see it is that a 4runner tub isn't easily replaced unless you get a new rig. Its not like a pickup bed that can be swapped for a couple hundred bucks and a couple hours of work.

It's certainly less likely to get hung up on stuff than the alternative:
I think having the back end wrap around would be a great improvement, especially if you could kinda cut out a grid over the taillight so it was protected too ... and then maybe a horizontal "rub rail" along the top to keep the glass/top from leaning into stuff ...

Definately a mod that nobody else has come up with for Toyota (not that I've seen anyway) I don't believe that my rig would be worth it in its current state, but for a nicer rig that see's regular wheeling i'd definately invest in a set.
