1st Gen 4runner rear 3 pt seat belts

Hi all. I was looking forever to find a good solution for rear shoulder belts for my 89 4runner. This may have been posted before, but this is what I found. I was at the wrecking yard and pulled some front belts out of an 88 single cab truck. They come with plastic covers on the belt housing and bolt directly to the roll bar. There is even a stud that matches the hole just above the bolt hole in the roll bar. This may or may not be exactly what the optional rear belts were for the 4runner, but they were a direct bolt in with no mods necessary and look great. Hope this helps anyone looking for a similar solution.

I did the same thing but with '93 truck belts into an '89 4Runner. The female part in the '89 was a different size so make sure you get both pieces if you go with different generations.

I too did this mod with the same front belts. A good piece of info to know is that the 11mm bolt that threads into the roll bar (and is pretty hard to find) is the same thread/pitch/diameter as a 7/16" UNF bolt.

Worked like a dream and readily available.

It is actually a 7/16-20 bolt.

Thanks for posting this - I was just on the phone with the local junkyard looking for rear shoulder belts for my '87 today, so this couldn't come at a better time.

I did this same swap in my 86 4Runner. I had an upholstery shop cut 6 inches off them and restitch them because they wouldn't fully retract (too long). Work perfectly.
